Never Trust A Junkie: Week 14 Picks Against The Spread

Maybe we made it to easy last week. For the first time all season both of us were perfect.

Let’s see if we can make it a little more challenging this week, but yet get them all right. Although, there isn’t much of a slate this weekend.

Week 13 Results:

CJ: 4-0

Freddie: 4-0

Season Standings:

CJ: 24-18 (57%)

Freddie: 18-13 (58%)

Week 14:

#5 Texas A&M (-7.5) at Auburn

CJ: Auburn is reeling after getting demolished by Alabama in the Iron Bowl. A&M is quietly having a good season and with just one loss is just sitting back hoping somehow that Clemson or Ohio State, or maybe both, get knocked out of playoff contention. The Aggies have been pretty good on defense this season, and Auburn certainly isn’t all that great on offense. I don’t know if Auburn pulls off the upset, but I think this one is close. Somehow, some way, Gus Malzahn teams always finds a way to win one when they need it most. Maybe that comes this week….. Auburn +7.5

Freddie: The Aggies only loss this season came at Alabama and they still have an outside shot of reaching the College Football Playoff. Last week, they managed just 267 yards of total offense during a 20-7 home victory versus LSU. Auburn was destroyed by Alabama last week. These two have split their 10 all time meetings with the Tigers getting the win in College Station last year. They won’t get a win this year though. The Aggies have an extremely talented defense and I look for A&M QB Kellen Mond to play much better against Auburn and the Aggies playoff hopes stay alive with the win….. Texas A&M -7.5

Liberty at #20 Coastal (-7)

CJ: The unbeaten team in the midst of a storybook season. Gameday in town for the first time ever. Standing in their way currently is a one loss Liberty team that is playing really well. The Flames could easily be unbeaten themselves. They really should have knocked off NC State. This might end up being the best game of the weekend. I think Coastal survives, but barely….. Liberty +7

Freddie: Who would have thought that Week 14 would see anyone talking about a game between Liberty and Coastal? Much less the fact that ESPN’s College Gameday would be in Conway for the game. It is 2020 and it’s happening just that way. The Chanticleers come into the matchup unbeaten while the Flames lone loss was to NC State. I expect it to be a good one. In the end though, I feel like Coastal is going to want this one badly as they get ready for their conference championship and Liberty, at this point, is just playing out the season while waiting to find out which bowl game they will be playing in….. Coastal Carolina -7

Boston College at Virginia (-6.5)

CJ: Virginia has found something of late and has turned that into a three game winning streak. BC has been a model of inconsistency. I’m rolling with the Wahoo’s….. Virginia -6.5

Freddie: Virginia comes into this game on a three game winning streak and has turned their season around. Boston College, meanwhile, has followed up every win with a loss after starting out 2-0 and they beat Louisville last week 34-27. I think the The Cavaliers lines will play better than the Eagles lines, and that along with more offensive balance will be enough to get Virginia the win….. Virginia -6.5

South Carolina at Kentucky (-11.5)

CJ: If I have learned anything from picking college football games, it’s that when you can’t decide either way. NEVER give the Gamecocks the benefit of the doubt. They will screw you every time….. Kentucky -11.5

Freddie: Yes, basketball season has begun. No, this is not a look at a matchup between the two school’s basketball programs. This will be a matchup of two football teams that come in under .500 and will hope to end on a high note. The Gamecocks limp their way to Lexington fresh off parting ways with their head coach Will Muschamp just a few weeks ago, several opt outs, and injuries. Now led by interim coach Mike Bobo, they haven’t won a game since they squeaked by Auburn way back on October 17th. On the other side, the Kentucky offense hasn’t been able to score but there won’t be any room for excuses when they line up against UofSC because the Gamecocks have given up at least 30 points in seven of their nine games this season. I don’t think they will need any excuses at all because Kentucky should score enough….. Kentucky -11.5
