K.J. Henry was selected in the fifth round on Saturday by the Washington Commanders and at least one NFL Draft analyst was surprised the former Clemson Tiger fell that far.
“Good player, on the opposite side of Myles Murphy,” NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said. “He is real physical. I saw him at the Senior Bowl. I thought he did a nice job but he is someone that plays a rugged game of football and that is appealing to a lot of teams.
“Again, fifth round. I thought we would have been talking third or fourth round where he would have gone on the board.”
Henry registered 147 career tackles (28.0 for loss), 13.5 sacks, 11 pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles in 1,771 snaps over 58 career games (24 starts) from during his Clemson career. At the time of his departure for the NFL, his 58 career games were the most ever by a Clemson defensive end. He was a two-time All-ACC Academic Team selection who earned earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in four years and continued post-baccalaureate work in his fifth season.
