At Clemson “the best is yet to come” mantra has become synonymous with the football program. And it still holds true.
For those that are not familiar, this was a statement made by head coach Dabo Swinney after the 2010 season when his Clemson program finished 6-7 and there was a lot of questions over the direction of the program.
Even during this summer, as this current Tigers team begins getting ready for Georgia, the staff continues to prepare for the next wave of Clemson players that will be carrying on the torch and the proof is very easy to see. The next class of Tigers continues to climb the recruiting rankings.
One of the things that help this along are things like Cade Klubnik’s stock shooting through the roof since he committed to the Tigers back in March. The 2022 prospect out of Westlake High in Austin, Texas has even been ranked as the top quarterback in the country by Sports Illustrated. He also recently beat out some of the best quarterbacks in the country to win the MVP award at the Elite-11 Finals and that’s just the beginning.
The nation’s No. 1 athlete Keon Sabb and IMG teammate and 4-star cornerback Daylen Everette both committed on Saturday as Clemson jumped 20 spots to No. 13 overall in the 247Sports Team Composite ranking. It also now gives the Tigers 10 commitments, nine of which are blue-chip prospects.
After not having a commitment since early March, Clemson has now added six over the last month. 4-star defensive end Jihaad Campbell, another IMG product, 4-star cornerback Toriano Pride, 4-star safety Sherrod Covil, and three-star licker Robert Gunn. Although, kickers never rate higher than 3-stars and Gunn is considered the top kicking prospect in the country by Kicking World.
Yes, there is a lot of star power already in the 2022 class but the Tigers staff isn’t backing off. There are several other top players being recruited, meaning it would probably be best not to sleep on this staff in the coming months, especially with the All In Cookout on the horizon.
