Tajh Boyd is coming home.
Well, not literally, as he has been in the Clemson area for a long time now, but he is coming home to the Clemson Football program. Boyd told Mike Uva of @wachfox that he is joining Dabo Swinney’s staff.
“I’m so excited and I’m encouraged,” Boyd said. “And I’m lucky to be invited back in that space and be a part of such a great staff and be surrounded by some men who are mentors, who are leaders, who are coaches, who are husbands and fathers, and getting a chance to learn from those guys is so exciting for me.”
Boyd, who is considered one of the building blocks of the program that Swinney has built at Clemson, starred as the Tigers quarterback from 2010-2013 and still to this day, holds a number of ACC passing records.
The former quarterback is anxious to get started in his new role and just wants to soak up as much as possible.
“I just wanna be a sponge,” Boyd said. “I wanna learn everything. I wanna understand it all. I wanna understand what it looks like to create a game plan. I want to know what their thought process is and figuring out who’s going to play and who’s not.”
As for what his specific title will be, that has yet to be determined, but Boyd says he is ready to give something back to the game and sees himself likely starting as some kind of analyst.
“It’ll fit somewhere between analyst (and a) player development role,” Boyd said. “I’ve been through so much with this game: loved it, hated it and everything else in-between. The fact that I get to give that back; help guys navigate through those experiences and get to relearn the game in a different light is really exciting for me going forward.”
