After Early Trouble With NFL, Some Expect Urban Meyer Experiment With Jags to be Short One

It hasn’t taken long for Urban Meyer to get in a little trouble with the NFL.

The Jaguars were recently fined $200K, with Meyer himself being hit with a $100K fine, for an OTA violation that went against CBA rules regarding 11v11 contact.

After adding former Clemson stars Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne in the first round of the NFL Draft, the excitement level surrounding the Jags fan base is as high as it’s been in quite some time. However, not everyone is convinced that Meyer is going to be able to succeed at the NFL level.

On a recent episode of Get Up, longtime ESPN personality Paul Finebaum predicted that Meyer will “flame out.”

“I’ll try not to sound like a broken record, but this is not going to work,” Finebaum said. “It may work short-term because he has Trevor Lawrence, and you can hold a team, but ultimately, Urban Meyer is going to flame out. You laid it out very eloquently there; it’s already happening. This guy does not get along with rules. He does not like to be told what to do. It didn’t work at Florida when he fled, it didn’t work at Ohio State when he battled that administration and finally walked off, or was pushed out, and it’s not going to work here.”

NFL analyst Bart Scott echoed those sentiments.

“This is a guy that can’t color within the lines,” Scott said. “He’s a guy that thinks he can operate above the rules. He’s always operated above the rules.”
