Clemson and Cade Klubnik, Proof Patience Pays Off

Everyone that follows recruiting knows that Clemson was all in on Ty Simpson.

Simpson, a 5-star prospect out of Tennessee, was one of just two quarterbacks the Tigers initially offered in the 2022 recruiting class. The other went out to 4-star Braden Davis, who the coaches backed off of fairly quickly. Davis eventually committed to South Carolina.

For months throughout Simpson’s recruitment, though, the Tigers were thought to be the leaders. Then in the days leading up to his announcement, things quickly started to change. Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide were able to lure the young quarterback to Alabama late in the process.

However, all was not lost. Clemson had stayed in close contact with 4-star Cade Klubnik, despite having not offered. Many wondered why it took so long to offer the highly-touted prospect from Texas, but behind the scenes all was well.

Klubnik knew why the Tigers had not offered. Transparency is one of the things the Clemson coaching staff prides itself on when it comes to the recruiting process and they were up front with Klubnik from the beginning and he always knew where things stood.

The offer came almost instantly after Simpson committed to Alabama. A commitment came just days later.

Throughout the Tigers pursuit of Simpson, Klubnik remained patient. This is a kid who had more than 30 offers and could have went almost anywhere he wanted, but what he wanted was to be the quarterback of the Clemson Tigers.

“Clemson, I know is home,” Klubnik told Clemson Sports Illustrated back in June. “It’s the place I know I’m supposed to be because God put me here and it shows when I talk to every coach and every person on staff. I love Clemson and cant wait to be here shortly.”

The Elite-11 MVP is a prime example of patience paying off and that in the end, sometimes things just work out the way they were supposed to work out. While Simpson is rated a tad higher by the recruiting servies (for now), Klubnik is the perfect fit for this Clemson Football program.

He’s not only the right fit from a schematic standpoint but he’s even better fit culturally. While some might say Clemson swung and missed on Simpson, it was still early in the count and this coaching staff responded by knocking the next pitch out of the ballpark.
