Going into tonight’s big game we knew former Tigers (Sammy Watkins, Bashaud Breeland, and Dorian O’Daniel) would have opportunities to play a part in helping to get the Chiefs a win. What we did not know at the time was just how big of a part they would play.

Sammy would have 5 receptions for 98 yards, averaging 19.6 yards per catch in the big game. That includes a 38 yard catch that he hauled in from Patrick Mahomes in the late in the game.

Breeland had 6 tackles, 1 assist, and a huge interception of Jimmy Garappolo at the 14:10 mark of the second quarter to stop a drive and get the ball back to Mahomes and the offense, which led to a field goal.

Breeland’s interception was the first by a Tiger in the Super Bowl. He did have to leave the game in the second half due to some type of injury.

Breeland’s INT

DOD recorded 1 tackle in the game on special teams. He is also the first Tiger to win national championships at the college and pro levels since Dan Benish accomplished that with the Tigers (1981) and the Washington Redskins (1987).

All in all, most would say that it was an overall great night for the former Tigers in the Super Bowl. We saw Watkins, Breeland, and Andy Reid finally get their hard earned title.

How many more opportunities they’ll have is not knownn but one thing is for sure, no one will ever be able to take their win in Super Bowl LIV away from them.
