MELT Founder and CEO Vince Thompson was a guest on Paul Finebaum’s show today and made one of the boldest predictions of the season. MELT is one of the nations largest independent sports marketing agencies.
While speaking on the subject of whether or not Tua Tagovailoa would enter the NFL Draft or return to Alabama for the 2020 season, he offered up this hot take,
“I still will state to the fact that I think Tua comes back next year, and Iām going to give you one more prediction today: Trevor Lawrence sits out next year.ā
Season’s barely over but the takes are hotter than ever….@vinnyinc says he expects Trevor Lawrence to sit out next CFB season and prepare for the NFL: pic.twitter.com/euunvdcTxv

Actually, this goes beyond being a hot take. It leans more towards being absurd than anything. Or comical, depending on your perspective. Guess this guy forgot that Lawrence was asked point blank about this very subject back at the beginning of spring practice. He very bluntly said it wasn’t something he’d consider doing.
āNah, no. Everyoneās talking about that, but I donāt really care about that. Itās definitely not coming from me, all that stuff, so I just kind of ignore it and keep working.ā
Lawrence also had this to say in an interview with ESPN when asked about him possibly sitting out a bowl game in the future.
āSitting out bowl games and stuff, thatāll never be me. You wonāt have to worry about writing those stories.ā
Unfortunately, we are living in the era of the hot take. Every mouthpiece with a microphone has one. And these days, when one guy gives his hot take, the next guy tries to outdo him by coming with one that’s even hotter, and that is all this was.
Thompson is no doubt tuned into the college football world. MELT does do work with ESPN’s College GameDay, so his name does carry some credibility. That credibility took a small hit with some fans today.
