USA Today released its All American teams yesterday, and three Tigers were selected. Two were named to the first team, while one was named second team.
Travis Etienne was one of the two running backs who were selected to the first team. Averaging over 8 yards per carry, ETN was without question the most productive back in the nation. He has 1500 rushing yards despite only having six fourth quarter carries all season. He’s a first team All American, yet isn’t a Doak Walker Award finalist, but I digress. Ohio State’s JK Dobbins was the other back named first team.
Isaiah Simmons was the other Tiger selected to the first team. The most versatile player in the nation leads Clemson in most statistical categories on the defensive side of the ball. The perfect nickel back for Brent Venables aggressive scheme, Simmons has done it all this season, making plays from the safety, linebacker and end positions.
Tee Higgins was named to the second team. Ja’Marr Chase (LSU) and CeeDee Lamb (Okl) were the two receivers that made first team.
Conspicuous by his absence is Tigers QB Trevor Lawrence. Joe Burrow was named to the first team, and Justin Fields just barely edged out Lawrence and Jalen Hurts for second team honors.
