Clemson Misses On One 2023 DL, All Eyes Now Turn Towards Priority Target Peter Woods

2023 DE Keldric Faulk announced a commitment to Florida State on Tuesday.

The 4-star prospect out of Alabama had been one of the Tigers’ top defensive line targets in the 2023 cycle, and with 4-stars David Ojiegbe and AJ Hoffler already committed, Clemson still looks to add one more end to the class.

4-star Hunter Osborne, also out of Alabama, could be that guy, but a commitment isn’t expected until later this summer.

Next up for the Tigers, is 5-star DL Peter Woods, who is set to announce on Friday. One of the top players in the nation, he ranks No. 23 overall in the 247 Composite and No. 3 among all defensive linemen.

Woods’ recruitment has been played very close to the vest, with little to no substantive information coming out of late. Although, it’s a battle that appears to be coming down to Clemson and Alabama, and Tiger fans have seen in the past how hard it is to pull elite level defensive line talent out of the state of Alabama.

Could this recruitment end differently? Scrolling the Twitterverse, it certainly seems possible that Woods chooses the Tigers on Friday. To this point, only one crystal ball has been entered. It is for Alabama but honestly it is of no real consequence as it was registered back in March of 2020. A lot has transpired since then.

Woods has been to Clemson several times in the past year and a half. With Tuscaloosa being so close, he’s been to Alabama a ton of times, as well. He took an official to Clemson back over that first weekend in June, and canceled a scheduled trip to Florida. He did not take an official to Bama, not there was much reason to do so. He knows everything he needs to know about the Crimson Tide.

If the Tigers can land Woods, it will be a major recruiting win for the program. Again, it’s not easy to pull elite-level defensive line talent out of that state, as Nick Saban generally gets the ones he wants.

Although, maybe this time things are different. Maybe this time Clemson gets its guy. We will know soon enough.
