The ACC might only have three teams ranked inside CBS Sports Post-Spring Top-25, but all three are ranked inside the Top-15. Only the SEC has more, with four.
Obviously, it’s Clemson leading the way at No. 2, with North Carolina at No. 7 and Miami at No. 15.
At No. 1 is Alabama, despite having a record number of players (eight) selected in the first two rounds of last weekend’s NFL Draft. Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Georgia round out the Top-5.
Fans of teams in the ACC, Clemson fans in particular, have been longing for more competition inside the conference. Everyone can recall how exciting the 2016 season was when the ACC was arguably the best of the Power-5 conferences.
Since then, it’s mostly been a slow decline back to mediocrity, at best. However, things appear to be headed in the right direction. North Carolina, Miami, and even Louisville appear to be trending upwards, though it’s taking Scott Satterfield and the Cards longer than most expected. Expectations are also on the rise at Boston College heading into year two of the Jeff Hafley era.
While neither Miami nor North Carolina are on Clemson’s schedule this season, just having three teams ranked inside the Top-15 will help bring a little more credibility to the entire league. Assuming of course both of those teams can prove worthy of those rankings, which as most know, has been easier said than done.
