NCAA Approves Waiver For Fall Athletes And Hunter Renfrow Has Fun With It

On Friday the NCAA approved a blanket waiver for all fall sports athletes. This waver includes football which won’t have current seniors count against the scholarship limit in 2021 if they opt to return.

This comes on the heels of four FBS conferences, two from the Power 5, deciding to “postpone” their seasons due to precautions and concerns surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.

In other words, players from conferences who are competing in either the fall or the spring can play any number of games and still maintain an extra year of eligibility.

Like with the earlier spring approved waivers, schools do not have to match and can therefore reduce the financial aid from this school year for players who opt to return.

The NCAA also approved a move for the canceled fall sports championships. From FCS football to other fall sports like soccer, volleyball, and cross country to play a championship in the spring with the ability to alter the playoff formats as needed.

One former Tiger decided to have a little lighthearted fun with this decision. Current Las Vegas Raider Hunter Renfrow tweeted out that he was returning for another year at Clemson along with a laughter emoji.

As of Saturday afternoon there have been 800 shares of the tweet and 8,536 people had commented on it. Renfrow is now getting ready to begin his second year with the Raiders.

Alabama and South Carolina fans, after the games that he played against them during his four years as a Tiger, are surely glad this was a joke.
