It was indeed a sad day when Furman announced they were cutting their baseball program due to financial issues, which were made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, one former Paladin has already found a new home.
Former Paladins pitcher Rob Hughes will finish his college career at Clemson. The right handed sophomore posted the following to his Instagram account.
After his freshman season in 2019, Hughes, who is from Rock Hill, earned a spot on the Southern Conference All Freshmen team. That included one appearance against Clemson in which he threw 3.1 innings of one hit ball, while striking out seven.
Over 22 appearances in 2019, he was 5-2 with an ERA of 4.43 and had two saves. The five wins and two saves both tied for best on the team.
