Clemson starting pitcher Sam Weatherly was named a third team All-American by Collegiate Baseball on Tuesday. The junior left hander from Howell, Michigan served as Clemson’s Friday night starter during the shortened 2020 season, a role he filled quite admirably.
Weatherly was 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA and had 43 K’s in 22.2 innings pitched. Opponents hit just 0.96 against him, as he had at least 8 K’s in all four of his starts, including at least 10 in his final three.
Against UofSC on Feb 28, Weatherly threw 7 innings of no-hit baseball, striking out 11 Gamecocks on his way to winning the Bob Bradley Award as the Clemson MVP of the annual rivalry series.
Weatherly is the 63rd Tiger to earn All-American honors in baseball and Clemson has now had a player named an All-American by Collegiate Baseball in seven straight seasons.
