On Tuesday night, Clemson picked up a bigtime commitment from four star linebacker Barrett Carter, giving the Tigers 11 commitments so far in the 2021 recruiting class that now ranks third in the nation, and tops in the ACC. Sorry Tarheel fans, you knew you wouldn’t stay atop the ACC for long in the recruiting rankings.
This is a resounding recruiting victory for the coaching staff, as Carter was wanted by every big boy football program in the country. Once again Dabo Swinney and company have gone right into Georgia’s backyard and plucked one of the states biggest prospects away from the Dawgs.
Carter, who typically lines up at outside linebacker, can rush the passer, play the run, and can even drop back into coverage if needed. There isn’t a ton of film on him in coverage but with the kind of athleticism he possesses, covering backs and tight ends should not be an issue. He will give Brent Venables an elite level linebacker that can be used in a variety of ways.
He is currently rated as the fourth best outside linebacker in the country, and it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see him get a fifth star with a stellar senior season. Again, he is the eleventh commitment of the 2021, and now gives the Tigers ten four star commitments to go along with one five star. That gives the team a 100% blue chip rate, and an average star rating of 0.9557, which is tops in the country. Not to shabby…..
