After being down 3-1, the Tigers rode huge sixth and eighth innings to get the comeback win 4-3, in game one of the weekend series with Boston College.Â
Clemson entered the bottom of the sixth inning down 3-1. Adam Hackenberg hit a single that scored Bryar Hawkins. Chad Fairey then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in James Parker and tie the score at 3-3.Â
Still tied at 3 going into the Tigers half of the eighth Clemson got a single from Adam Hackenberg that scored James Parker, and giving the Tigers all they would need.
Clemson’s starting pitcher, Sam Weatherly, who has been almost untouchable to start the season, pitched 5.2 innings. He allowed just three hits, three runs (one earned), and four walks with 10 strikeouts. Carson Spiers came on and pitched 1.1 innings to get his second win of the season.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the series, improved to 10-3 overall on the season, and are now 1-0 in the ACC. Meanwhile, the Eagles fell to 5-7 overall and 0-1 in ACC play.Â
The second game of this three game series is scheduled for 3pm Saturday and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.Â
