Rivalry week is always a fun one, and this year was no different. For us Clemson fans, the weekend couldn’t have gone much better.
The Tigers whipped UofSC 38-3, giving them their sixth straight over the Gamecocks. Auburn knocked Alabama out of playoff contention, and on top of all that we were treated to one of Dabo Swinney’s infamous “rants.”
Suffice it to say, the weekend gave us plenty of material to use in handing out this weeks awards. Remember, it’s all in good fun.
Most Impressive Win Award
Ohio State
The Buckeyes whipped #13 Michigan 56-27, getting over 300 yards passing from QB Justin Fields. The Ohio State defense held Michigan to just 2-13 on 3rd downs and under 100 rushing yards. The win didn’t come without a scare though, as every Buckeye fan had to be holding their collective breaths after Fields took a shot to the knee. He’d leave the game, then return with a brace, but it was a scary looking hit.
Best Outcome Award
Clemson
The Tigers went down to Columbia and blew the doors off in state rival UofSC. After a goal line stand on the games opening series, the Gamecocks didn’t even put up much of a fight in the 38-3 loss. It was the kind of beating that was just enough to be embarrassing but not enough to force the UofSC administrations hand into buying out Will Muschamp, and Tiger fans couldn’t have asked for a better result than that. Please, never fire him.
Biggest Embarrassment Award
Miami
The Canes made the trip up to Wallace Wade and one week after an embarrassing loss to FIU, dropped a game to a Duke team that had looked to be checked out weeks ago. Miami managed just 259 yards of offense, only had 2.4 YPC on the ground, and were 4-20 on 3rd down. How’s that Manny Diaz hire working out for you?
#ByeFeliciaAward
Alabama
Who would’ve thought that a Big 12 game would break out in the Iron Bowl. Those big, bad SEC defenses were nowhere to be found in this one. Auburn knocked off the Tide 48-45, ending Bama’s hopes of a sixth straight CFP berth. Watching Alabama commit 13 penalties and throw 2 pick 6’s was glorious. The rest of the nation might have Clemson/Bama fatigue but us Clemson fans have Bama fatigue, and with that we happily say buh bye!
Wal Marter of the Week Award
Nick Saban
Come on coach, you’ve got to be better than that. That’s part of the game. This is worse than the “copycat plays” quote from halftime of last season’s national title game. It’s called football, and you’ve been a part of the sport your entire life. You’re considered the best college coach of all time, yet you insist on sticking your foot in your mouth, coming up with excuse after excuse every time you get beat. Be better.
