Clemson Destroys Boston College: Rapid Reactions

For weeks now the narrative has been how this Clemson team just might not belong. What’s wrong with the offense? How something must be wrong with QB Trevor Lawrence. It was coming from the media and fans alike. Well tonight, this Tiger team showed the nation they’re just fine in a 59-7 beatdown of Boston College.

  • No slow start tonight, and no sloppiness. This team was was sharp from the opening snap.
  • And nothing is wrong with Lawrence. That was plain as day tonight. He was dialed in, and throwing darts. 16-19 for 275 yards with three touchdowns. When there was nothing there, he found and hit the checkdown instead of forcing it. He’s also turned into a legit threat running the ball. He’s not going to run it a ton but will enough that he’s got to be accounted for.
  • Travis Etienne ran hard tonight. 16 carries, 109 yards, and a ton came after contact. He also hit paydirt three times. Like I’ve said before, ETN is the best back in the nation when it comes to YAC. He also reeled in 3 catches for 33 more yards.
  • Third straight in which the Tigers rushed for over 275 yards. Been a LONG time since that’s happened.
  • Clemson built a 38-7 halftime lead and played 50 guys in the half. It’s about execution, not substitutions.
  • Diondre Overton with three touchdown grabs to tie a school record (held by many), and a career high 119 receiving yards. In two of the last three games he’s made an impact. Coming in as a reserve, he won’t get the opportunities that the starting wideouts do, but seeing him start to make the most of his handful of targets each game is nice. He can help this team in that role.
  • Keep an eye on TE Davis Allen. Each week it seems his snap totals are increasing.
  • Just can’t say enough about this defense. Tied a school record holding their eighth straight opponent to under 300 total yards and BC had just 177 tonight. They held this powerful running game to less than 100 yards and just 2.2 YPC. The Eagles were just 2-15 on 3rd downs. AJ Dillon got his, 19 carries and 85 yards but that was it. BC QBs were just 6-18 for 80 yards.
  • No XT for the second straight game, no problem. Logan Rudolph has stepped up and played very well in his absence. Even had a scoop and score tonight.
  • Good to see Darnell Jeffries getting some playing time. Much was made about his weight entering camp and its obvious he’s been putting in the work.
  • Did Potter really kick one out of bounds? Pretty sure that’s a first for him and it will probably be his last.
  • Would seem many fans decided to pass on this one due to rain in the forecast. The weather man was wrong. Guessing some folks might be kicking themselves right about now.
  • Man, it sure is odd looking to see a quarterback wearing #92.
  • Dominating performance overall. From beginning to end. No slow starts and no sloppiness. This offense is starting to hit its stride and that should scare the rest of the country.
