Representing Team USA during the 2019 World University Games, the Clemson men’s basketball team defeated Finland 69-65 to open pool play. The Tigers forced 21 turnovers, 10 coming by way of steals.
Aamir Sims had a double double, finishing with 17 points on 7-16 shooting, while also grabbing a team high 13 rebounds.
Tevin Mack finished with 10 points to reach double figures, but went just 1-6 from three. Freshman Alex Hemenway came off the bench to add 10 points as well.
Al-Amir Dawes finished up with 9 points and Hunter Tyson finished up with 5.
Transfer guard Nick Honor got the start at point guard but due to transfer rules will have to sit out this coming season for Clemson. With Clyde Trapp’s injury, that’s led many to wonder who will run the point in 2019-20. It looks like Brownell is getting Dawes ready to play the position as a true freshman.
Don’t let the number of guards on the roster fool you. Most are shooting guards. This would include Dawes but he does have some experience playing the point, and it seems he will get first crack.
