Furman at Clemson: Preview and Prediction

Let’s be brutally honest here. This is nothing more than a glorified scrimmage.

Clemson has never lost to an FCS program since the division was formed and they aren’t about to start now. So there is no reason to really take a deep dive into this game.

Coming off a blowout win over North Greenville last Thursday, Furman does come into Death Valley with a few extra days to have prepared, while the Tigers are facing an extremely quick turnaround, having played on Monday night.

Clemson’s 41-10 win over Georgia Tech showed that the Tigers offense might be a work in progress over the early part of the season, and having the Paladins in week two could prove to be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Oftentimes, teams take their biggest jump in improvement between the first and second game, and while there won’t be a whole lot to be learned from this matchup with the Paladins, there are some things worth keeping any eye on.

Can DJ Uiagalelei build off his strong second half effort on Monday night? Will the wideouts step up and give their starting quarterback some help? Can the offensive line, particularly that right side, own an opponent it should? And can the running game get going?

The Paladins will have issues moving ball, let alone scoring against this Clemson defense. The Tigers showed on Monday night just how strong they are going to be on that side of the ball. There is elite-level speed and athleticism everywhere.

Look for this one to be over fairly early, and for the youngsters to get plenty of snaps. That means more of Cade Klubnik, as the freshman absolutely earned more time with his performance against the Yellow Jackets.
