While some are hoping for a quarterback battle during fall camp, it doesn’t appear there is one. However, that doesn’t mean there’s no competition.
“Right now, DJ’s our starting quarterback,” offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter said. “He’s been solid this whole camp. He really has. He’s been moving so much better. He’s been doing a great job of leadership. These guys really want to follow him.”
Freshman QB Cade Klubnik is undoubtedly pushing Uiagalelei, he just isn’t pushing for the starting spot. Not at this time, anyways.
“There’s no doubt there’s competition,” Brandon Streeter said. “There is definitely competition, but DJ, he’s the guy right now. He’s our guy.”
“Cade has done an awesome job. He’s doing nothing but continuing to get better and better and better.”
However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t areas in which Uiagalelei needs to improve, but so far so good and Streeter now just wants to see the junior quarterback be consistent.
“(Uiagalelei’s) got to stay consistent and keep playing and keep getting better,” Streeter said. “That’s what competition is about. It’s making all of those guys in my room better and better each day.”Â
