With six weeks remaining before the start of the 2022 college football season, there are several questions surrounding the Clemson Tigers.
All of those questions reside on the offensive side of the ball, though, as the general consensus has been that the Tigers will field one of the top defenses in the country, if not the best one outright.
However, it appears not everyone is buying the Clemson defense. Earlier this week, FOX College Football sent out a tweet asking fans which team would have the nation’s best defense in 2022.
The interesting part of the tweet was the five choices that were listed. Notre Dame, Georgia, Oklahoma, Cincinnati and Wisconsin were those five choices.
Oddly enough, Clemson, as well as Alabama, were absent from the tweet.
The Tigers return not only its starting defensive line from a season ago, but pretty much the entire two-deep up front. A unit that finished second in the nation in scoring defense, despite an inconsistent offense that made a habit of hanging the defense out to dry.
Starting this kind of debate during the summer months is always fun. However, a discussion regarding the best defenses in the country that doesn’t include Clemson just doesn’t seem right.
