Nobody likes to hear, ‘I told you so.’ However, when the one that could say it doesn’t, others rise in his stead.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney hasn’t engaged in any feuds like Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher have, because, simply, he’s already said it all. He has gone on record detailing his concern about the entanglement of the transfer portal and NIL and how that entangling is changing the sport, quickly.
He was attacked, made to look and sound like an uncaring Simon Lagree. Always treating those in his charge as little more than indentured servants while he got rich. Some media sources have painted Swinney in such a manner, that the masses began to believe Dabo was just being Dabo, a small-minded, self-serving pious holy roller.
Fast forward to earlier this week. It seems since Saban and Fisher commenced firing at one another, leaving the whole of college football in the line of fire. It’s ugly, vicious and it’s going to get worse, believe me and then remember, he told us so!
When your mentor, your leader prudently remains silent, a few of his young men have chosen grab the mantle of truth, to set the world straight. We saw this on full display as Xavier Thomas and Darien Rencher took to the Twittersphere to remind college football that Swinney told them so.
I’m trying hard to remain objective here but why do I care? There are few in the media or even in the public who hide their lack of objectivity and criticism of the one man that told it like it is, again.
Is he a soothsayer or a clairvoyant? I suspect neither, but is he a visionary?Yes, absolutely. He can look over the horizon and see signs of trouble coming for something he’s given a lifetime to make better. So, college football media, ESPN and especially you, Paul Finebaum. Based on the unfolding bitter and public squabble between Saban and Fisher, Swinney was right. If he won’t say it, Thomas and Rencher will, ‘Dabo told you so.’ Shame on all of you for having the temerity to dismiss Swinney’s thoughts on this and every other matter. You are not part of the solution, you are a part of the problem.
