ACC Announces Baseball Players of Week

Press Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville senior third baseman Ben Metzinger has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Florida State sophomore lefthander Parker Messick earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season.

ACC baseball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.

Metzinger hit .471 (9-for-19) in the Cardinals’ 3-1 week that included an ACC three-game series road sweep of Boston College. The Louisville native scored eight runs while driving in five for the week, including a home run in game 1 of the Boston College series and a 3-for-4 effort that included a double in game 2.

Metzinger also stole four bases in the four games as Louisville improved to 6-0 in ACC play and remained atop the early Atlantic Division standings.

Messick allowed four hits while striking out a career-high 14 batters in seven innings as the Seminoles blanked visiting Duke 4-0 in Friday night’s ACC series opener. Messick issued just two walks and matched the ACC high for strikeouts in a single game this season.

A native of Plant City, Florida, Messick (4-1) currently ranks second in NCAA Division I with 65 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched this season, one strikeout behind the national leader.
