Has time changed the mind of Deshaun Watson?
Last season the Panthers were reportedly interested in trading for the embattled quarterback but Watson was not interested in going to Carolina.
With a grand jury choosing not to indict the Texans’ quarterback, the Panthers are once again planning to pursue Watson.
According to David Newton of ESPN.com, the Panthers plan to make an “aggressive” offer for the former Clemson quarterback, if he’ll waive his no-trade clause for the Panthers.
Newton’s report says the Panthers are willing to trade any player on the roster, outside of safety Jeremy Chinn.
The Panthers were willing to trade for Watson prior to last seasons trade deadline, but the quarterback was unwilling to waive his no-trade clause for a move to Carolina at the time. The Panthers were willing to make a deal despite the unresolved issues surrounding Watson’s legal issues.
While there will be no criminal charges filed against Watson, he is still facing 22 civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct. He is also looking at a likely punishment of some sort from the NFL.
What “aggressive” actually means remains to be seen, as does whether or not the quarterback would be willing to accept a trade to the Panthers, who had their fair share of issues in 2021, including a head coach on the hot seat.
