Biggest Question for Clemson Offense Centers Around Health

A season like last year will always bring tons of questions and the Tigers first step in answering one of their biggest begins this week.

That is can they stay healthy. Over the last two seasons head coach Dabo Swinney’s program has been hit hard with injuries and in 2021 it really took its toll.

One position heavily affected last year was quarterback. DJ Uiagalelei played hurt (knee and throwing hand that we know of) most of last season and the microscope will be on him this season to see if he can stay healthy. The coaches still believe can become the Heisman type quarterback that they expected last season.

However, if the injury bug strikes again, unlike last year, the Tigers do have other options. Former 5-star Cade Klubnik is already on campus.

The No. 1 quarterback recruit in the country is expected to take over the helm after Uiagalelei moves on and the biggest question at this point is will it need to be sooner. They also have Hunter Johnson, who transferred out only to transfer back in after a not so good stint at Northwestern. He won’t be available until fall camp, though.

Another question for this team in regards to injuries is can the offensive line stay healthy? Continuity is how an offensive line gels and Clemson certainly didn’t have that for most of last season.

Then you have the wide receivers who will be looked at to see if they can get by the injury bug that has plagued them over the past two seasons. Yes, this group (like others) has had to work with injuries before, but never the amount they saw last year.

Hopefully, this was a one year aberration. The Tigers had been pretty fortunate avoiding the major injury bug up until the past two seasons.

Injuries are going to happen in a violent sport like football but Clemson fans can rest assured knowing this staff will be looking at every option available to try and limit or cut down on them headed into the 2022 season.
