Deshaun Watson wants out of Houston. The Texans want to unload him.
However, with all the uncertainty surrounding Watson’s immediate future due to his legal issues, Houston has yet to receive an offer they consider worthy of the former Clemson signal caller.
The Philadelphia Eagles have long been reported to have major interest. Denver has been mentioned many times as well. Another team that gets talked about off and on is the Panthers.
Carolina did trade for Sam Darnold. They also picked up his 2022 option. Although, according to a report from Mike Florio, the Panthers still have plenty of interest.
“Per a league source, the Panthers quietly are keeping an eye on Watson,” Florio wrote. “Yes, they traded for Sam Darnold and picked up his 2022 option. Owner David Tepper nevertheless is committed to finding a long-term franchise quarterback. Watson has the skill to become that guy, and Tepper — who made his money buying low and selling high — could be inclined to make a move if Watson’s contract can be secured at a reasonable amount.”
With Watson’s legal troubles looking like they are nowhere close to ending, the question becomes, can the Texans afford to play the waiting game while waiting on the offer they want, which reportedly includes three first round picks. Or do they finally get to the point where enough is enough and they just take the best deal they can get.
