Suddenly Clemson’s Quarterback Depth May Not Be An Issue

After months of worrying about the depth behind Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, it turns out there may have never been anything to really worry about.

The first round of the MLB Draft came and went on Sunday night with neither Bubba Chandler or Will Taylor being selected. Suddenly, the Tigers go from have little to no depth, to having a very solid quarterback room. Assuming, of course, both guys are now staying at Clemson.

Getting Chandler is a big win for the program. That isn’t a knock on Taylor in any way, but Chandler is the guy that needed to stay to really ease some of the depth concerns. Taylor will spend a year at the position but the plan is to move him to receiver.

Chandler is a guy who many think was severely underrated during the recruiting process. How high his ceiling really is, that’s hard to really say, but he has all of the physical traits coaches covet in a bigtime starting quarterback.

As Matt Connolly notes in his tweet, the Tigers aren’t completely out of the woods just yet. Both could still be taken and receive first round kind of money as second round picks. There are a couple of teams that still have plenty of bonus money avaliable to make that happen. Stay tuned.
