With Toriano Pride now on board in the 2022 recruiting class, the Tigers now turn their attention towards the remaining targets on the board.
Clemson will absolutely take one more corner this cycle and would like to take two more. The top two targets are 5-star Jeadyn Lukus and 4-star Daylen Everette.
Lukus is an in-state guy from just down the road from Clemson in Mauldin. The Tigers are thought to be the leaders to land the elite-level talent, but Mack Brown and North Carolina are giving Dabo Swinney all they can handle in this battle. Ohio State appears to be trying to get in late as well.
Lukus grew up rooting for the Tigers and if Clemson were to miss on him, it would be a huge blow to this class. A 5-star in-state guy that was made a priority getting away? That just doesn’t happen anymore these days.
It is expected that Lukus will be on hand for the All-In Cookout at the end of July. If that is the case, it wouldn’t be wise to bet against Swinney closing the deal, seeing as Lukus is looking to make a decision before the start of his senior season.
As for Everette, his recruitment has been a little harder to get a read on. The highly-touted prospect out of IMG was thought to be leaning towards Clemson at one time but the Tarheels and Florida State are both pushing hard and are in the thick of this thing. Everette is also looking at making a decision before the start of his senior season, although that isn’t set in stone.
The big question here is what happens if the Tigers were to land one and miss on the other. Would the coaches decide to just pocket that scholarship or would they put the full-court press on another target.
Chris Coley and Earl Little Jr both have offers and are both still uncommitted. Coley is coming off a visit to Vanderbilt and the Commodores are thought to actually be the leaders at the moment. If the Tigers were to make him a priority, it’s hard to imagine Coley not at least considering it.
Little just picked up his offer not long ago and in fact had released his list of top schools before he got it. At the time, he said the Clemson offer changed things for him, but he is still considered a heavy Alabama lean. However, if he were to jump to the top of the Tigers’ board, would that change things?
With a dead period back in place, things will likely remain in a holding pattern for the time being. This dead period ends during the final week of July, though, which should make for an exciting end to the summer.
