Patrick Mahomes on Cornell Powell: ‘He’s a Beast’

Rookie wide receiver Cornell Powell is making a lasting impression on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes has developed into one of the best quarterbacks the NFL has to offer and when he offers up analysis on teammates, its noteworthy, especially when he is talking about rookie wideouts he just might be throwing to next season.

“Cornell, he’s a beast,” Mahomes said recently. “He’s big out there, running across the field and making some big catches in some tough, contested spots.”

After being selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs, Powell will go from catching balls from Trevor Lawrence, arguably the best signal caller in college football last season, to Mahomes this season.

“Going from Trevor to Patrick Mahomes, it’s just a blessing,” Powell told media members recently. “I couldn’t ask for anything better, I fell into the perfect situation, so I’ve just got to make the most of every opportunity that I get.”

Powell isn’t paying attention to any of that, though. He knows what he brings to the table and the former Clemson receiver is just focused on getting better every day.

“I consider myself a playmaker,” Powell said. “I can go down the field and make plays, I can run routes, and I can give my team a spark.”
