Sweep of NC State Keeps Clemson Softball Climbing in Polls

After their thrilling sweep of a four-game series against NC State last weekend, the Clemson Softball team has now won 16 consecutive games.

The four-game sweep, as well as a big win over in-state rival South Carolina, also kept the Lady Tigers moving upward in the polls. This week Clemson moved up three more spots and are now No. 13.

Valerie Cagle also picked up ACC Player of the Week honors after another outstanding performance during the past week.

Cagle helped Clemson jump into first place in the ACC standings after leading the Tigers in batting average (.615), slugging percentage (1.462), on-base percentage (.737), total bases (19) and walks (6), four of which were intentional, last week. Cagle also registered three home runs, two doubles and five RBI, while going 3-0 in the circle, including one shutout, with a 1.27 ERA and tallied her fifth save of the season.

The 13th ranked Lady Tigers will now head up to Syracuse for a four game series this weekend with firs place in the ACC on the line. Clemson is currently just percentage points ahead of Florida State.
