The Texans are making moves. Whether it’s enough to bring disgruntled quarterback Deshaun Watson back into the fold remains to be seen.
Mark Ingram is one of the players Houston has recently brought on board, and the former Alabama running back is hoping that it is Watson taking the snaps for the Texans next season.
The newly signed running back told the NFL Network he has reached out to Watson multiple times, including once before officially signing with Houston. However, Ingram said regardless of how it plays out, he just wants the best for Watson.
“I told him I support him and I understand it’s business,” Ingram said. “I want him to be a Texan. One of the best quarterbacks in the game. You always have a chance with Deshaun at the helm. But I wish the best for him.”
“I hope so, you know, nobody knows, I mean, except him and you know whatever’s going on with the team,” Ingram said. “Obviously we want him to be there, you know. I mean I want him to be there, I’d love to play with the Deshaun Watson.”
If it isn’t Watson under center for the Texans next season, Ingram said he hopes the team is able to find a winner to step into that role.
“Somebody who is a winner, man,” Ingram said. “Is gonna fight, gonna try and be the best player he could be. The best teammate he can be. Someone who cares, who’s smart, makes plays… just go fight.”
In the end, though, Ingram is hopeful he gets a shot a playing with Watson, the former Clemson quarterback who has quickly blossomed into one of the best in the league.
“I hope he’s a Texan, I hope stays,” Ingram said. “I hope we can get it going.”
