Dabo Swinney Says Tigers Roster is Ahead of Where It Was at Same Point Last Spring

The way last season ended had to not sit well with this Clemson football team.

The Tigers began spring practice looking to put all of that behind them, and four practices into the spring session and head coach Dabo Swinney says his team is already ahead of where they were a season ago.

“It’s been a fun four days, got a lot of work done,” Swinney said after practice on Monday. “I really like this football team. I think our roster is ahead of where we were last year at this time from a competent, functional standpoint. We’ve got good competition going on out here and we were a young team last year. A lot of guys that made a lot of improvements.”

Monday was the first time the team got in live work according to Swinney and the head coach has been pleased so far with what he has seen, particularly the attention to detail.

“Today was the first day we were getting some live work,” Swinney said. “A lot of fun to see these guys take on that aspect of it, but we’re off to a good start. It’s gonna be a big week for us. So Wednesday will be day five, we’ll have a little more live work, some situational scrimmage-type stuff. Then Friday and Saturday. So, big week, going fast but really like right now where we are. Encouraged by just the little things that the guys have bought into, and great energy out here.”
