“The 2020 version of the Clemson Tigers killed multiple birds with one stone in Charlotte, as they avenged a midseason loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and secured their 6th straight ACC title. While the Tigers proved a game adversary in South Bend in November, the fully healthy version of the Tigers who arrived for the rematch thoroughly outclassed the previously unbeaten Irish, claiming their 20th ACC championship and 6th consecutive CFP berth in the process.”
“Led by living Clemson legends Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne, the Tigers plotted an efficient offense that methodically overwhelmed the Irish, as Lawrence’s introduction to the Golden Domers proved to be far more devastating than many ND pundits had anticipated. Lawrence gashed the Irish with his arm and legs while targeting the likes of Amari Rodgers and E.J. Williams, and Etienne again displayed the brilliance that has put him atop the all time Clemson and ACC record books.”
“The Clemson defense received multiple shots in the arm in the forms of James Skalski, Tyler Davis, Mike Jones, Jr. and a bevy of other starters who missed time in South Bend at various stretches of the first game. Notre Dame QB Ian Book was under constant siege, as Clemson’s defense sacked him 6 times while continuously resetting the line of scrimmage and eliminating any vestige of a rushing attack for the Irish. Brent Venables sent pressure from all angles, and Clemson’s secondary blanketed the Irish receivers for most of the night, as Book soon discovered that the scrambling he did in South Bend would not be available to him in Charlotte. “
