The last few months have been a little unusual as far as Clemson recruiting is concerned. The Tigers had gone without a decommitment for several years, and now within a matter of months, the program has seen two players back off of commitments.
Don’t misunderstand, the sky isn’t falling, it’s just a little unusual. However, Clemson is due for one to go their way on the recruiting trail, and hopefully that happens tomorrow.
Four star defensive tackle Payton Page, out of Dudley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina is set to announce his commitment on Tuesday at 6 pm. Back in April he trimmed his list of potential suitors to three. They are Clemson, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
Clemson has long been considered the favorite, although due to recent circumstances, Tennessee has made a strong play for the big defensive lineman’s services. Of course, North Carolina and Mack Brown would love to add to their top five class by snagging Page, but it doesn’t appear this one will go their way.
Page is ranked No. 80 overall in the 247 Composite and is the seventh best defensive tackle in the country, and fourth best player from the state of North Carolina.
Currently, Clemson’s 2021 recruiting class is ranked ninth in the country and second in the ACC. Adding Page would give the Tigers 14 commitments and send them moving back up the rankings.
