All Clemson fans remember this one like it was yesterday. Charlie Whitehurst and the Tigers stormed into Williams Brice and put a beating on UofSC. Most forget that the Gamecocks were actually favored in this game.
Whitehurst threw for more than 300 yards and four touchdowns and Chad Jasmin added four short touchdown runs in the dominating win.
“I’m as embarrassed as I’ve ever been,” Lou Holtz said afterwards. “We didn’t play physical enough. We we’re outhit. That should never happen to USC. We should never be outhit. The fans, alumni, and administration deserve better than this.”
“We’re going to have to go back and look at everything. Myself, assistant coaches, players, everything. I’m embarrassed. This should never happen to South Carolina football.”
