Clemson is scheduled to open the season on the road against Georgia Tech on September 3, and the oddsmakers are not letting the fact that it is a road opener get in the way of making Clemson a huge favorite.
Circa Sports has released betting lines for the opening week of the 2020 college football season, and Clemson is opening as 29 point favorites.
This is a huge point spread. For comparisons sake, South Carolina opens up at home against Group of Five opponent Coastal Carolina, and is only a 23 point favorite. Tennessee opens up at home against Group of Five team Charlotte, and is only a 24 point favorite.
Clemson has won five straight in the series over the Yellow Jackets. The Tigers last loss came back in 2014 in Bobby Dodd Stadium, when Deshaun Watson was injured early on and backup quarterback Cole Stoudt came on in relief and threw two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns.
Tech is in just its second season of a total rebuild under Geoff Collins as they move away from the option offense that Paul Johnson ran for more than a decade. While some improvement is expected, it shouldn’t be enough to compete with this Clemson team that is far superior from a talent perspective.
