It’s the off season and this is when rumors start to gain traction. Something Clemson fans are not immune to hearing about regarding current players. This is what happens when you have talented athletes playing for your team.
The latest one has to do with Trevor Lawrence and whether or not the Carolina Panthers are trying to put themselves in position to get him in the 2021 NFL Draft. How badly does Carolina want him? Would they tank next season to get him? Matt Miller with Bleacher Report thinks so.
Player movement is often a good sign of things to come in the NFL. This is especially true when it comes to teams that are coming off of disappointing seasons and are looking at a rough outlook for the upcoming season. That is the the situation that the 2020 Carolina Panthers find themselves in. Bleacher Report’s NFL Draft insider, Matt Miller, thinks Carolina’s recent trade that involved Trai Turner (a 26 year old Offensive Guard) is putting down the groundwork for a rebuild this season.
It would make a little more sense seeing that the Panthers quarterback, Cam Newton, is entering the final year of his contract this season and is not looking like the long term option in Carolina. The Panthers and first-year head coach Matt Rhule are reportedly already setting their sights on Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has been expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in that draft for several years now.
Trevor Lawrence’s style is similar to Heisman and National Title winner Joe Burrow. Carolina just hired former LSU offensive cord Joe Brady to be their offensive cord, and he is who helped develop and coach Burrow at LSU. That makes the likelihood of this more believable.
Trevor Lawrence does have two years of eligibility left but most believe that this opportunity will be too much for the All ACC Quarterback to pass up, seeing as he is looked at as the best overall player that will be eligible in the 2021 NFL draft.
