Clemson started the rivalry series off with a bang. The two biggest  questions coming into tonight’s game have been where is Clemson’s offense gonna come from and can they score enough runs to beat the Gamecocks.
Well, the Tigers answered those questions emphatically tonight. Coming in they had hit just two homeruns. Tonight they hit three, all two run dingers (Dylan Brewer, Davis Sharpe, Kier Meredith), and also got an RBI triple (Bryar Hawkins), giving Clemson a 7-1 win over the Gamecocks at Founders Park.
Sam Weatherly continued his dominant start on the season, going 7.0 innings without giving up a single hit and striking out 1. He looked good on the mound, even when UofSC managed to work walks and get runners on base. He was in total command all night.
Weatherly gave way to Geoffrey Gilbert to start the seventh. Gilbert was also dominat but did give up the no hitter on a solo homer in the ninth..Â
The Tigers and Gamecocks will move to Segra Park on Saturday for game two of the three game series. First pitch is set for 3pm and will see Thomas Farr (UofSC) going against Davis Sharpe (Clemson) on the mound.Â
