Clemson Football: ESD Recruiting News And Notes

With Early Signing Day coming on Wednesday, Clemson is looking to lock up the nation’s top recruiting class for 2020. Most of the class is already locked up and the staff is trying to put the finishing touches on a loaded class.

Five star LB Trenton Simpson visited this weekend and picked up an offer and immediately committed. Simpson has long coveted a Clemson offer but the staff was hesitant to offer with numbers so tight.

Most have assumed five star LB Justin Flowe was a lock to the Tigers, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Flowe is visiting USC this weekend and Oregon is making a strong push. Simpson picking up an offer is definitely a sign that there is uncertainty. Right now it’s starting to look like Flowe ends up at Oregon, and that’s why Simpson finally got his offer.

It seems as if the teams recruitment of Jordan Burch is over. The staff won’t even get an in home visit. This class is loaded with DL prospects, so missing on him isn’t a big hit, but you can never have to many elite level defensive linemen. Dabo Swinney was in Columbia during the week watching him play basketball, so if it really is over, it just ended. However, the way it’s gone with this kids recruitment, nobody knows for sure.

Xzavier Henderson, the 4 star WR from South Florida is the top priority left on the Tigers board. He is visiting this weekend, which works out perfectly from a timing standpoint. With Jeff Scott leaving, Henderson gets an opportunity to get to know new WR Coach Tyler Grisham. Clemson is in great position to land Henderson.

LSU commit Malcolm Greene is another guy to keep an eye on, as the Tigers are trying to flip the four star safety. When he visited back in the spring, it didn’t appear as if the Tigers would have room for him. The staff now knows exactly what kind of attrition they’re looking at over the offseason, and that’s apparently opened up a spot. He’s projected to flip and sign with the Tigers.
