Once Again, No Postseason for Monte Lee’s Clemson Tigers

For the second straight year, the Clemson Tigers have failed to secure a spot in an NCAA regional.

After beginning the season 14-0, Clemson really struggled out of the gate in ACC play, losing nine of its first 11 league games. The team would eventually rebound though, winning seven of its last nine conference games to clinch the 12th and final seed in the ACC Tournament.

The Tigers headed to Charlotte likely needing just one win to punch its ticket into the field of 64, but went 0-2, losing to both North Carolina and Virginia Tech in lopsided fashion.

The last time Clemson failed to reach the NCAA Tournament in consecutive seasons came way back in the 1980s when the Tigers went five straight years (1982-86) without making an appearance. That was long before the field expanded to 64 in 1999.

Now the attention turn towards whether Monte Lee will return for an eighth season. It should make for an interesting week in the upstate.
