Dietrick Pennington’s first season in Clemson has come to a premature end.
Head coach Dabo Swinney told the media on Tuesday that the freshman offensive lineman tore an ACL on Saturday against SC State and will miss the rest of the season.
“Dietrick is a big blow because I think he was on his way to really, really becoming a very consistent contributor for us and a definite big-time depth guy.”
Pennington was a 4-star recruit and probably one of the more undervalued players the Tigers signed in the 2021 class. He was on his way to contributing mightily as a depth guy in his first season in Clemson.
The makes three backup Clemson offensive linemen who are now lost for the season. Pennington joins John Williams and Tayquon Johnson as players not expected back in 2021, although Swinney did say there was a small chance Johnson could make it back for the postseason.
