Early on in the summer it appeared that 2022 linebacker Jaren Kanak was a lock for Clemson.

In fact, many had him pegged as being the first guy that would commit to Clemson following the 15-month long dead period. However, Kanak is just another example of how quickly things can change in the world of recruiting.

At one time, most expected Kanak to be one of those guys that would make a summertime decision, but it is starting to look like his recruitment will extend into the fall. He’s only used up two of his official visits and may choose to use the other three taking in games this season.

Outside of Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Kansas State, Michigan and Oklahoma are all pursuing the hybrid linebacker from Kansas.

However, for now, this is Brent Venables guy. He is who the Tigers longtime defensive coordinator wants. Kanak is a versatile player that Venables envisions being able to use in a number of different ways.

The 4-star prospect should still be considered a slight Clemson lean at the moment, but with the emphasis being on the word “slight.” This one has turned into a much bigger battle than originally thought and it’s a long way from being over.
