Jeadyn Lukus is arguably the biggest piece of the 2022 recruiting class for Clemson.
Growing up just down the road in Mauldin, the 4-star cornerback has long been a priority for the Tigers in the current recruiting cycle.
Clemson has long thought to have led in the recruitment of Lukus and head coach Dabo Swinney is a big part of the reason why, according to the lifelong Clemson fan.
“I grew up like 45 minutes down the road, so I’ve been a Clemson fan like pretty much my whole life,” Lukus said at the Rivals 5-star challenge. “Talking with Coach Swinney too, went to his house, like I had one on one conversations with him. He’s just amazing. And you can see why they win so many games and why the program is where it’s at today.”
However, Mack Brown and North Carolina have made this a much closer battle than most expected and defensive backs coach Dre Bly has been very influential during the process.
“Coach Bly is an amazing recruiter,” Lukus said. “I’ve grown to develop a relationship with him over like the past a year and a half really now. He’s just an amazing coach, coaches DB’s the right away. And Coach Brown too, he’s an amazing coach. What he’s doing with the program is great right now.”
Lukus said that what Brown has been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time in Chapel Hill has been nothing short of remarkable.
“He’s switched the program around really,” Lukus said. “He’s just, you can tell he’s real when you’re talking to him like face to face. You can tell, he like knows what he’s talking about and all that type of stuff.”
Ohio State is also trying to get in late. The Buckeyes defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs is trying to get Lukus up for a visit sometime this summer. However, time is running out, as Lukus is looking to make a summertime decision and there will be dead period in place that starts on June 28 and runs through most of the month of July.
“DBU,” Lukus said of Ohio State. “I’ve been talking to Coach Coombs. We’re trying to set up with a visit pretty soon. So we just been talking back and forth, talked to coach Day a couple times too.”
