The Tigers and Bulldogs meet to kick off the season in Charlotte but they’re already entrenched in several recruiting battles for some of the top prospects in the 2022 recruiting class. One of those is 5-star safety Keon Sabb.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound safety out of IMG Academy, is ranked as the No. 1 ATH in the country by 247Sports and No. 7 overall. He’s also the top-rated player in the talent-rich state of Florida.

Clemson is strongly in the mix to land the elite-level talent after he was able to experience the culture firsthand at the Tigers Elite Retreat.

While the Tigers are in good shape with this high profile recruit, he did take an official visit to Georgia this past weekend and it sounds like they pulled out all the stops and closed the gap, making it an all-out battle to land the services of the 5-star recruit.

Sabb still has visits scheduled to Michigan and Penn State, but the chances of either school making a realistic run appear to lie somewhere between slim and none.

To this point, Sabb has not released a list of his top schools. Seeing as IMG likes their players to have decisions made before the start of their senior season, a summertime decision seems likely. Probably sometime late in the summer.

While this is a battle that is far from over, with that kind of timeframe in mind, this could set up just right for Clemson from a timing standpoint. The All In Cookout is in July, which would give Dabo Swinney the perfect opportunity to once again prove to the rest of the college football world that he’s still one of the best closers in the business.
