Clemson got strong performances from Aamir Simms and Tevin Mack in the Tigers 87-65 victory over Detroit Mercy. The Titans are out of the Horizon League and are coached by former Indiana coach Mike Davis. For most of the game, Detroit Mercy was able to hang around, but the Tigers pulled away over the final ten minutes of the game.
The Titans used a 1-3-1 zone to defend the Tigers most of the way, but the Clemson was able to overcome it by shooting the ball well, with the 87 points being the most the team has scored this season. The Tigers shot 48% from the field and 33% from three.
Three Tigers finished in double figures, with Hunter Tyson leading the way with 20. That includes him going 5-10 from beyond the arc. Aamir Simms had his best outing of the young season, scoring 19 points, grabbing 8 boards, and dishing out 4 assists. Tevin Mack had another good game himself, with 18 points.
Clemson forced 18 turnovers and scored 18 points off of those turnovers. They outscored the Titans 34-20 in the paint and 31-18 from the bench.
Antoine Davis led the way for Detroit Mercy. The son of head coach Mike Davis had 26 but shot just 6-20 from the floor.
