Playoff Outlook: Week 6

We are already through five weeks of the college football season and we still have several teams that have a realistic shot a locking up one of the four spots in the CFP. With so few of those teams facing any real competition this week, there will still be plenty alive after the weekend. Let’s take a quick look at those teams, and what they’re up against this weekend.

1. Alabama

A week after taking over the top spot in both the AP and Coaches Poll, the Tide have the weekend off.

2. Clemson

After barely getting by Mack Brown’s feisty Tarheels, the Tigers have a bye week too. The break comes at a perfect time, as the team needs to work on getting the offense rolling.

3. Georgia

The Dawgs travel to Knoxville to take on the hapless Vols. It should be an easy day at the office for Kirby Smart’s bunch, as they’re 24.5 point favorites.

4. Ohio State

The Buckeyes get their toughest test to date as they get set to take on #25 Michigan State at The Horseshoe. This isn’t the usual tough nosed Sparty team Mark Dantonio is known for though, and Ohio State should be able to take care of business. If they are as good as most think, they should get through this one fairly easily. Either way, we should know much more about this team after this weekend.

5. LSU

The Tigers will host a pesky Utah State team in what should be nothing more than a glorified exhibition. The new look LSU offense has been able to score in bunches so far, but that defense has a few leaks.

6. Oklahoma

The Sooners hit the road to face Les Miles and his Kansas Jayhawks. Enough said.

7. Auburn

Auburn is on the road at #10 Florida in a game featuring two 5-0 teams. The winner helps its case and gives themselves an impressive resume builder, and while the loser won’t be out of it, their chances will take a hit.

8. Wisconsin

The Badgers play host to Kent State. The Flashes are a 35 point underdog and pose no threat.

9. Notre Dame

The Irish are the first one loss team on the list, and despite its narrow road loss to Georgia, are still very much alive. After knocking off Virginia last weekend, they will host a bad Bowling Green team.

11. Teaxs

Texas hits the road to play West Virginia this weekend. The Longhorns are another one loss team that is very much alive. However, there is have no margin for error. They will need to take care of business in Morgantown.

12. Penn State

The Nittany Lions play host to 1-3 Purdue, and are big home favorites. We have seen Purdue play spoiler before and Penn St had had its share of up and down moments so far. This one has the potential to get interesting.
